Midnight Sun Local Section Cosponsors
Alaska Occupational Safety Summit
AIHA’s Midnight Sun Local Section, along with
the Alaska Chapter of the American Society of
Safety Engineers, will host the 4th Annual
Alaska Occupational Safety Summit, “Safety in
Challenging Times,” Sept. 22–23, 2009, at the
Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage, Alaska. The
event will feature general sessions, exhibitors,
speakers, and opportunities to network with
others in the OEHS field.
General session discussion topics include
health, safety and environmental management
systems, industrial hygiene, construction safety,
OSHA compliance management, and security
and emergency action planning. Summit attendees will receive BCSP, COC and CM points.

Mansdorf Retires
AIHA expresses its sincere thanks and best
wishes to Past President Zack Mansdorf, PhD,
CIH, CSP, QEP, who announced his retirement,
effective July 2009, after a career spanning 40
years. He served as AIHA president in 1996–
1997. In 2005, he was awarded AIHA’s Donald
E. Cummings Memorial Award for his contributions to industrial hygiene and for supporting the profession at the local, national, and
international levels.
Mansdorf was most recently in charge of
safety and health at L’Oreal. He is credited with
helping significantly reduce worker injuries,
energy consumption, and the amount of waste
sent to landfills from L’Oreal plants.
