AIHA® Presents Course
in Mandarin

GE, offered Measurements
of Hazardous Substances
(MOHS), at the GE China
Technology Center in Shanghai, China, June 28–July 2.
Part of a series of internationally developed and
peer-reviewed training
modules, the course provided techniques for assessing exposures and gauging risks
to 25 students. All lectures and demonstrations were taught in Mandarin by course
instructors Mark Katchen, Ellen Liu and Victor Liu. Corporate sponsors included
SKC, ESIS and NBC Universal.

AIHce 2010 PDC Instructors Donate $10,395 to AIHF
Each year, some of the pre-conference instructors donate their earned honorarium to
the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation (AIHF). This year, 35 instructors donated
Since 1982, AIHF has distributed more than $1,139,000 to 423
students at 46 different schools and universities. These scholarships
have enabled talented students to complete their education and
have encouraged the most promising scholars to enter or remain in
the industrial hygiene profession.

Correction
The June/July Synergist incorrectly reported that Joel Cohen, CIH, was nominated to
the health position on the California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board
(OSHSB). AIHA® member Henry McDermott, CIH, CSP, was nominated for the position.
McDermott was appointed to the OSHSB in June. The Synergist regrets the error.

Dr. Rafael Moure-Eraso, CIH, was ap-
pointed chairman of the U.S. Chemical
Safety Board (CSB). Moure-Eraso was
nominated by Presi-
dent Obama on March
22 and confirmed by
the U.S. Senate on
June 23. The CSB is an
independent federal
agency that investi-
gates industrial chemi-
cal accidents. Prior to
his appointment, Moure-Eraso served as
chair of the Department of Work Environ-
ment for the School of Health and Envi-
ronment at the University of
Massachusetts, Lowell.
Henry (Hank) McDermott, CIH, CSP, was
appointed to the health position on the
California Occupational Safety and Health
Standards Board (OSHSB) in June. The
OSHSB is a seven-member organization
that sets standards within the Cal/OSHA
agency. Members are appointed by the
