AIHce Comes Up Roses
Portland Set to Host the OEHS Professions’
Premier Conference and Exposition
BY BROOKE MORRIS
This spring, thousands of occupa- tional and environmental health and safety professionals will once again head west to attend AIHce, the premier conference and expo
for the OEHS industry. From May
14 to 19, Portland, Ore., named
“America’s Greenest City” in 2008
by Popular Science magazine, will
host AIHce, where attendees will
have access to more than 700
courses, sessions, lectures, workshops and luncheon discussions
centered on professional development, science, management trends
and industry innovations.
The “City of Roses”—so named because of its many rose gardens—has
grown since it hosted AIHce 30 years
ago. Over the past decade, the city has
become a mecca for artists, and a number of dance companies, performing arts
theaters, galleries and museums have
emerged. From performances by the Oregon Symphony at the Arlene Schnitzer
Concert Hall to indie rock shows at Portland’s various bars and lounges, the city
is the ideal place to catch any kind of
musical act. Portland also has an abundance of movie houses and holds a few
film festivals annually.
Outdoor adventure enthusiasts will
revel in the city’s natural attractions. As
one of only three cities in the contiguous
U.S. that contain extinct volcanoes,
Portland is home to Mount Tabor Park,
which rests on the Mount Tabor volcanic
cinder cone. Forest Park and Tryon Creek
State Natural Area are also popular parks
for hiking and running.
